Positive Feedback on black blackoard with hand

If you are not getting the traffic you want on your website, it is very likely it has not been optimized. An optimized website is one that has been designed, updated, and written with search engine optimization in mind to get better rankings on top search engines, most notably Google.

If you are selling a product on the internet, this is extremely important, as the higher up you are for key search words and phrases, the more traffic, and therefore, more sales. If you are on the outside looking in, here are some things you can do to optimize your web page for better results.

• Have a user-friendly site

If your main page or any of your landing pages lack clear instructions on what to do, or lack concise content, what little traffic you get will not stay long. Best practices call for a 3rd party to analyze your content and how easy it is to find it.

There is also more to it than just content. The overall aesthetic value including graphic content, the ease of use of tabs and links, and a pleasant contrast between background colors and text are all important. Your content must be relevant, accurate, easy to read, and must have the right keywords for search engine optimization considerations.

• What is the competition doing?

Very few businesses today work in a vacuum, or have a monopoly. You need to know what your competition is doing, and where they are in the search engine rankings compared to you. Are they above you in ranking, on a consistent basis for the key words and phrases that count for your business?

If you are losing ground to the competition, you can use more geographical keywords in your content, such as “Dallas karate studio” instead of “karate studio,” since it is unlikely anyone in New Mexico is going to commute to your place of business. You can also explore bidding for Google AdWords, and have your ads pop up on pages that display for certain search engine results.

• Customer Satisfaction

It is vital to your company that you allow for feedback from customers somewhere on your website. This will give you much needed information on where you are doing a good job and how you can improve. If it is done right, it can also act as a selling point for your products and services. Satisfied customers are a selling point all by themselves, and the more customers and outside content you have on your web page, the more likely it is that Google will take notice and reward you with a higher ranking.

These are just some of the many steps you can take to make your web page more visible to the outside world.
