I have written before about how important it is to make it easy for your prospective customers or clients to say yes to you.
This covers such things as having your contact information very clear on your website, being active on popular social media sites with your website URL prominently displayed, and other similar actions on your part.
Now I’m going to share with you something I just learned from book publisher and ebook converter Chris O’Byrne:
In working with my 87-year-old father Al Zimbler’s third book of humorous short stories, Chris changed the shortened bit.ly link I had included for people to write a review of the book on Amazon after reading the book.
I had put the bit.ly link to the book’s Amazon page, where people have to scroll down and hunt for the button to click to write a review.
Chris changed the bit.ly link to the actual page where the review of the book would be written. (If you are not already signed into Amazon, the link takes you first to your login and then to the page to write a review of this book.)
Now this may seem to you a “simple” change, but in my opinion it is HUGE. Instead of risking well-intentioned readers never finding the review link or getting distracted by other info on your book’s page, these readers are now directed to the page for the requested task.
Okay, you may not have a book on Amazon for which to use this marketing tip. But you may be able to use in various ways for your own business.
Let’s think of an example that could apply to you:
You have an ABOUT page on your website with lots of information. At the very end of the information you have a button asking people to click on it to go to a special page on your site on which to write a testimonial for your products or services.
When you send out an email to your list asking for a testimonial, you give the link to the ABOUT page.
People go there and get distracted by your other information or do not scroll down far enough on the website page.
No testimonial.
Instead, in your email to your list, you give the link directly to the page where people can write the testimonial right at the top of that page.
Voila! You have now made it much more likely that people willing to write a testimonial for you will actually carry through and do so.
It’s often the little things that can make such a difference.
I’m going to revise the html coding in all my Kindle ebooks to change the bit.ly links requesting a review to go directly to the review page.
I will start with my novel MRS. LIEUTENANT, a 2008 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award semifinalist that will be free on Kindle on August 20 and August 21.
I have already created the shortened page link via bit.ly. Click here to see how this link goes to the Amazon review page of my novel.
Now I will put the bit.ly link http://amzn.to/P4wbtE in the html coding for the ebook, convert it to the Kindle mobi format via Calibre, and upload it to my KDP account on Amazon.
Is it worth this effort? I think so!
If you want to visit Chris’ site to see more of what he does, do so now.
This is one of the things I found amazing, the salesman ability to convince people into buying their product..
