Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 When was the last time you gave a thought about your online business reputation? For too many business owners, they get so caught up in their daily responsibilities of running a business, they tend to lose focus on how some consumers view them. If that happens, the end to their business can come sooner rather than later. In a day and age when reputation plays a big part in just how much business those who run companies get, here are five tips on better marketing your business online: 1. Be aware – Don’t be the business owner who doesn’t pay attention to online chatter. While you do not need to monitor the web 24/7, you should be searching out your name and your company’s name from time to time. See if there is any negative commentary directed at you, be it from an unhappy customer, a current or former employee who has taken issue with you, or even from a competitor who is trying to grow his or her business while bring your reputation and business down; 2. Be proactive – You should never wait for an “incident” to hit you. Use the Internet to promote your company by utilizing social media, blog posts on your site and when you have opportunities to guest blog on other credible sites, posting tutorials about the products and/or services you offer, podcasts, and more. The more you are seen as a business that gets online technology, the more it will help you grow as a company. Given the fact that many consumers are now shopping through their cell phones, tablets, and laptops while at home, work or traveling, you need to be seen as someone who gets today’s technical world; 3. Be in tune – Whether through your website or your social media channels, reach out to your current and potential customers to see how you can best serve them. Put out there survey questions to see what they like or don’t like about your business, what they would like to see more of, and how you can best meet their needs. A business owner who hears what customers wants typically tends to sell more, especially in times where customers have so much to choose from; 4. Be consistent – Whether it is through your blog posts or social media, you need to have a consistent online presence. Have you at times come across the business site who doesn’t constantly update their blogs or tweets or shares on social media once in a blue moon? By doing that, they are missing out on potential business, not to mention increase their search engine rankings, which of course will help them drive more traffic their way. Once you commit to regular blog posts and social media marketing, you can’t take your foot off the accelerator; 5. Be open – Finally, always be open to ideas from your staff and others. It is easy for some business owners to take the approach that it is my way or the highway when it comes to how they oversee their Internet reputation, but does that really do a business good over time? If you have a marketing person or team in place in your office, meet regularly to review ideas, share opinions, and set new goals to act upon. Marketing is really not as difficult as some folks make it out to be, especially with all the online tools available today. How you market your business online will go a long way in determining just how long you can keep that “open for business” sign around.
