If you own or operate a website you probably care about these two things on a daily basis, increasing targeted traffic and increasing conversions. The problem arises when you get traffic but it doesn’t lead to a sale.
Converting traffic into sales is a common problem all e-commerce sites go through. There are however steps you can take in order to improve your conversion rates.
Consistency
When it comes to the look and feel of your site be sure to make the site visitor comfortable. The transitions from page to page should be smooth and hassle-free.
The less redirection to external websites and less template changes will help reduce the bounce rate. Visitors shouldn’t have to familiarize themselves with every page; they should be comfortable with the layout on every page they visit.
Having consistency will make it easier for visitors to compare products, possibly leading to a sale. The goal is to keep them on the site long enough to buy something, if the user has a negative experience on your site they will go elsewhere.
Contact Information
Questions and concerns often arise during the decision making process. The customer service contact information should be easily found.
If the customer has a specific question that gets answered by a customer service representative they are more likely to purchase from that website. If however no contact information is displayed, that is reflected negatively on your site and possibly affects your credibility.
Product Description
The product description is a crucial part in the customer decision making process. Use this section to highlight the features of your product in an easy-to-understand way.
Be sure that your description leaves nothing out, and is as detailed as possible, without being overwhelming. The worst thing that can happen is that the visitor has to go elsewhere to do their product research and may not come back and purchase anything.
Product Image
As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” holds true in e-commerce. Your product image has to be eye-catching, generating interest in the viewer.
Adding additional images with different angles or colors can really boost your conversion rate. Some people interpret information better through graphics as opposed to text. You want to please both types of people with quality images and understandable text.
Price
One of the most significant contributors to conversions is the price of the item. Do your research and come up with an industry competitive offer that makes you profitable and covers your expenses.
Display your price clearly for the customer to see, avoid tricks and gimmicks they will lead you down a path of refunds and chargebacks.
Be aware that visitors to your site can come from all over the world and use a different currency than you do. Having an option to pay in foreign currency will help you make more international sales.
