Yuga Labs, the blockchain-powered tech firm behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT collections, has announced plans to launch the beta version of its Otherside metaverse game next year.
In an October 24 exclusive interview with Punk 6529, Greg Solano and Willie Aronow, the co-founders of Yuga Labs, confirmed plans to launch the beta version of its metaverse game Otherside in the first quarter of 2023.
Yuga Labs To Launch Its Beta Metaverse Game
According to Bored Apes founders, the newly improved metaverse game, “The Persistent World,” will consist of features similar to Roblox, a multiplayer virtual world game. Roblox allows players to program and play NFT-backed virtual games.
Roblox virtual game came into the spotlight in September after attracting huge reflux of users despite the ongoing bear market. As of October 10, Roblox had more than 9.5 million developers, 40 million games, and 5.7 million users, with more than 67% of its gamers under 16.
Yuga Labs anticipates following Roblox’s footprints to expand its metaverse adoption. While commenting about “The Persistent World” metaverse game during the same interview with Punk 6529, Wylie Aronow, the co-founder of Yuga Labs, remarked:
“I think we’re doing things the opposite of the way a lot of gaming companies do things, starting with the iterative development of the game. Usually, what you see is that you’ll probably get a teaser, a few months later you’ll get a trailer, three years later, you’ll get a game.”
Metaverse Gaming Suffers Amid Bear Market
The ongoing general crypto bear market, which began several months ago, has not spared the metaverse gaming either. According to the crypto tracker Nansen, the metaverse and NFT-related games have performed poorly in the broader NFT market.
Otherdeed, an NFT collection allowing users to acquire the virtual land at Otherside, is a recent perfect example. The NFT collection has shrunk in the past week from the 1.6 ETH support level it had for several months to as low as 1.13 ETH.
