Line NFT Marketplace Launch

The most popular social messaging app in Japan, Thailand and across much of Asia has launched its own marketplace for NFTs, under the name ‘LINE NFT’.

Nearly 100 million monthly active LINE users in Japan – and 200 million worldwide – will now be introduced to non-fungible tokens and be able to buy and trade NFTs.

The NFTs LINE’s new marketplace will support are still being rolled out.

However according to NFT news Twitter account @nftigoo they will include NFTs from many iconic Japanese anime series such as Patlabor the Mobile Police, and represent a variety of other genres and popular characters, alongside exclusive NFT movies from Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co. Ltd.

Yoshimoto Kogyo is a well-known Japanese entertainment, comedy and theatre company, with its headquarters in Tokyo and Osaka.

While the most popular instant messaging (IM) app in China is the Chinese Wechat, LINE is very popular in Japan and Thailand.

Its other competitors include Whatsapp, Viber and Facebook Messenger – Facebook recently rebranded to Meta and is very involved in NFT and metaverse projects, which LINE is now following in the footsteps of.

LINE is no stranger to cryptocurrency however, already supporting crypto payments for some time and having its own native coin LINK (not to be confused with Chainlink) with the ticker LN.

Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten also launched an NFT marketplace earlier in 2022, known as Rakuten NFT.
