Interpol Police Metaverse

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) has launched the first ever fully operational metaverse. The new virtual world will allow Interpol to offer immersive training courses to law enforcement bodies across the globe.

Interpol Joins The Metaverse

Interpol announced the metaverse initiative as a surprise during the 90th Interpol General Assembly in New Delhi on October 20. The conference brought together security delegates from all over the world. Interpol also allowed some delegates to digitally enter the conference through their avatars using virtual reality headsets.

According to Interpol, the new virtual world will allow registered users and security personnel to seamlessly share ideas and communicate with other officers around the globe. The police metavese will also allow users to explore a virtual replica of the Interpol General Secretariat offices in Lyon, France.

Interpol Adopts Web3 To Boost Policing Education

Interpol has announced plans to set up a group of experts featuring professionals from the Interpol Capacity Building and Training Directorate. The new panel will offer users immersive training programs for forensic investigation and other policing skills in the metaverse.

The team of experts will also conduct a live demonstration of a training course on travel document verification and passenger screening “using Interpol capabilities.” Moreover, these experts will address various concerns of law enforcement worldwide.

The new Interpol metaverse appears when criminal activities are on the rise in the metaverse. In September, a South Korean court sentenced a man to a four-year jail term for reportedly producing and storing sexually exploitative content involving minors he lured on the metaverse.

While commenting about the new police metaverse initiative during an interactive session in New Delhi, Mr. Oberoi, the Executive Director of Technology and Innovation at Interpol, remarked:

“The Metaverse has the potential to transform every aspect of our daily lives with enormous implications for law enforcement. But in order for police to understand the metaverse, we need to experience it.”
