The nascent non-fungible token sector has seen a significant rise in scam attacks and hackings in 2023. In yet another scam attack, hackers have compromised the Mailchimp account of digital asset incubation studio Yuga Labs.
Hackers Attack Yuga Labs Mailchimp Account
In a January 19 blog post, Yuga Labs, the parent company behind the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), confirmed that it was subjected to a hack this morning after scammers compromised its Mailchimp account.

Established in 2021, Yuga Labs is a blockchain-powered company and home to the leading NFT collection, including Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Meebits, CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Otherdeed for the Otherside.
Under the recent attack, hackers gained access to a Mailchimp account, an email and market service platform that Yuga Labs use for limited purposes. Yuga Labs reveals that it normally uses the breached account for an email campaign involving a few people.
In the meantime, the Bored Ape Yacht Club creator has confirmed that even though an unauthorized user had raided its Mailchimp account, it seems no data have been exported. Yuga Labs has reassured the crypto community that their NFTs are safe.
Other NFT Scam Attacks In 2023
The Yuga Labs scam raid appeared just a few days after another group of hackers drained thousands of dollars in NFTs from NFT God, an NFT influencer, in Google Ads-delivered malware attack. Last week, NFT God confirmed losing NFTs worth $27,000.
On January 4, CryptoNovo, another non-fungible token influencer, announced losing two CryptoPunks worth more than $300,000 in a cyberattack. At the time, Novo allegedly clicked an unknown phishing website, losing a series of NFTs.
Earlier this year, hackers also breached Nikhil Gopalani’s crypto wallet, stealing over $173,000 in NFTs in a phishing-related attack. Nikhil Gopalani is the chief operations officer at Nike’s digital assets incubation studio RTFKT.
