The non-fungible token and the metaverse sectors continue attracting notable investors, businesses, and brands despite the ongoing bear market that has left many digital assets shedding over 60% in value.
Luxury carmaker BMW is the latest brand interested in joining the NFT and the metaverse sector. The car manufacturer has filled trademarks application to launch tokenized virtual vehicles, among other assets.
Luxury Carmaker BMW Enters The Metaverse
In a November 30 blog post, Mike Kondoudis, the intellectual property attorney, confirmed that Bayerische Motoren Werke AG “BMW” filed three trademark applications with United States Patents and Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 25.

According to the first application, the German luxury car manufacturer plans to offer downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, audio, and video featuring cars, toy vehicles, vehicle accessories, clothing, and headgear in the form of NFTs.
The carmaker also anticipates offering downloadable computer programs featuring vehicles, toy vehicles, vehicle accessories, headgear, clothing, and footwear vehicle spare parts suitable for online environments.
Moreover, BMW also plans to launch downloadable computer games, simulators for simulating the operation of land vehicles, virtual reality headsets, and virtual reality glasses, among other virtual reality hardware items such as computer mice, mouse pads, and computer joysticks.
In its second application, the luxury car manufacturer intends to offer retail online store services for virtual vehicles, virtual toys, virtual bags, and virtual footwear and clothing. BMW will use NFTs to authenticate those virtual assets.
Lastly, BMW plans to offer entertainment services, including online non-downloadable virtual assets such as toy vehicles, vehicle parts, vehicle accessories, and headgear for virtual environments.
BMW Is No Stranger In The NFTs
It’s not the first time BMW would invest in the NFT sector. Earlier this year, its Middle East subsidiary partnered with Dubai importer AGMC to launch a new collection dubbed the “Museum of Sound” NFT collection.
The joint NFT project featured a limited edition of 19 NFTs done on location at the Dubai Autodrome Club circuit. The audio/visual artworks immortalized the sounds of the BMW M engine as it moved towards an electric future.
