The luxury sportswear brand Adidas has launched a fixed collection of virtual jackets as part of its efforts to expand its Metaverse initiative. The new limited collection of virtual jackets will be sold as NFTs on the OpenSea NFT marketplace.
The new crypto development appeared one day after its contemporary sportswear brand Nike announced the debut of its metaverse platform, allowing users to buy and sell sports apparel such as sneakers and jerseys as NFTs.
In a November 18 press release, Adidas confirmed launching a new collection of virtual jackets, which will mark the launch of the new Adidas Originals digital products category called “The Virtual Gear NFT Collection.”
Adidas Launches Virtual Jackets
According to the announcement, the Virtual Gear collection will feature a limited edition of 16 jackets and hoodies of various types, including the wall runner quilted jackets made of 3D layered toweling trefoils.
The new collection of virtual jackets and hoods will also feature inflatable-style personal flotation device (PFD) puffers and Neobone tops inspired by the rubberized sole pattern of the Adidas superstar sneaker.
Among the 16 pieces, virtual jackets will include the Bored Ape Yacht Club, featuring fluffy red balaclava hoodies, GMoney, with black puffer jackets, and Punk Comics, consisting of leather biker jackets.
The Bored Ape-Inspired Virtual Jackets
The Punks Comics and the Bored Ape Yacht Club signatures will showcase the continued partnership between Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored NFT collection, and Adidas. While commenting about the new Metaverse project, Erika Wykes-Sneyd, the VP of Adidas, remarked:
“Adidas will explore every viable utility, platform, and experience within Web3 to unlock new possibilities for our wearables, with a focus on tangible value and immutable utility for our community members.”
It’s worth noting that Adidas launched a similar project called Adidas Originals: Capsule NFT collection in May. All the Capsule NFT collection owners will stand a chance to get a free random virtual jacket from the Virtual Gear collection.
In the meantime, Adidas anticipates unleashing a new profile-for-proof (PFP) dressing tool before the end of next week. The new NFT feature will allow avatars from the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and other inhabitants to wear this initial edition of the Adidas Virtual Gear collection.
