The 2013 Super Bowl is quickly approaching and while Ravens and 49ers fans are getting excited about the game, millions of people are getting ready for the commercials. In fact, many people just watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and will get up and move around during the game instead of the other way around. For this very reason, and the fact that millions of viewers will see the advertisements, even if they do watch the game, companies spend millions of dollars for a time slot during the Super Bowl.
Last year’s Super Bowl had 111 million viewers worldwide and the price for a 30-second spot for commercials cost $3.5 million, but this year, the cost went up to $3.8 million. Superbowl commercials are very competitive and companies try to make their ads memorable in hopes of increasing sales.
For 2013, some of the top spenders for ads include:
- Coca-Cola
- Pepsi
- Oreo
- Hyundai
- Audi
- Best Buy
- Anheuser-Busch
- Mercedes Benz
These companies along with many others will reveal their most creative commercials on Sunday night in hopes of being remembered as one of the best.
There was not a clear commercial winner for the 2012 Super Bowl, but there were a few that definitely stood out. One of the favorites from last year was a kid dressed up as Darth Vader in the Volkswagen ad.
Another was the Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep ad with Clint Eastwood. Some other favorites of last year include Bud Light, M&M’s, Doritos, Pepsi, Chevy Camaro, H&M, Sketchers, Honda, Volkswagen, Chrysler, and Audi.
There are a few commercials for the 2013 Super Bowl that are highly anticipated. Bud Light, which has always done well during the Super Bowl, will be having two 30-second commercials called “Lucky Chair” and “Journey.” See a sneak preview of “Lucky Chair” below.
Best Buy will have a commercial with Amy Poehler. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be appearing in a “Got Milk?” ad. Paramount Pictures will be showing the trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, one of the most highly anticipated films for 2013. And finally Wonderful Pistachios, a company that has never bought a spot for the Superbowl, will be airing a commercial which guest stars Psy.
Everyone, whether a football fan or not, is anticipating this year’s commercials and which companies’ ads will come out on top.
