Every couple of months, it’s normal to feel that your marketing is stagnant. Maybe you want to shake it up a bit! Most small businesses these days use a variety of marketing methods and tools in their plan – social media, referral programs, print advertising, e-mail drip campaigns.

As you’re implementing new marketing tools and platforms, think about how you can shake it up a bit.

  1. Go back to the old methods: Maybe you tried something 4 years ago and it didn’t work. Try it again. Business landscapes are constantly changing – as are target audiences, campaign executions, delivery styles. Subtle differences or changes can be the difference between a method working and a method failing. Don’t shoot down ideas just because they didn’t work before! Dig into your box of “failed” marketing methods and see what would be fun to pick out and try again.
  2. Work as a team: Get all of your most creative people together on the team. Use “we” language and really work together as a team, not as individuals. When creative ideas start flying in a group, be kind to each other and carefully evaluate each one. Drill down and work on the specifics together. Remember the principle: “All of us are smarter than one of us.” This method is a valuable way to get ideas out there.
  3. Let loose a bit: Marketing doesn’t have to be a very rigid science, but it does have to continually improve and evolve. Think outside of the box when it comes to ideas. How can you re-design your referral marketing program to entice more referrals? Does your Facebook page need a re-fresh of some brighter graphics? What kind of guerrilla marketing campaign would get your audience’s attention? Can you host an event that will get your client’s buzzing about you?

Marketing is designed to be fun – so don’t be afraid to try something new, go outside of your comfort zone and see the results roll in!
