If you’re anything like me I love a good movie about selling. Especially ones that revolve around the day to day trials and tribulations of the sales professional. Personally I love sales, I think it is one of the most honorable professions around. Your success is determined by your actions and there are generally no limits to the level you can take your career. Yes a few bad apples sometimes give the rest of us a bad reputation however most sales professionals are honest, hard working and believe in what they do. So what better way to enjoy your downtime then by watching a movie about selling!
“Call yourself a salesman you son of a ….”
There are so many classic quotes from the following list of movies about selling. Many of them have found their way into my everyday conversations which I think is a testament to how good the following movies about selling are. Be warned that some of these are not safe for work. So here they are, in reverse order (the best movie about selling is at the bottom of the page, let me know if you agree with me by leaving a comment).
11 All Time Greatest Movies about Selling
11. Love and Other Drugs (2010)
A heartwarming story about a womanizing Viagra Salesman who meets his match in a free-spirited Anne Hathaway. Yes it’s a romcom but there are some great scenes about selling pharmaceuticals.
10. Jerry Maguire (1996)
Yes it’s a romantic comedy but I couldn’t exclude this movie about selling as it has one of the greatest lines ever ‘Show me the money!’.
9.The Prime Gig (2000)
A fantastic movie about the phone sales industry. If you have spent time in or around the sales profession you will have a great appreciation for this film.
8. Moneyball (2011)
Not technically a movie about selling, this film has the capacity to engage viewers who are familiar or unfamiliar with the sport, based on the avant-garde approach to managing resources that is utilised by Billy Beane, which any person in business can appreciate.
7. Margin Call (2011)
Simple and sweet, this movie sums up the stock market and real estate crash (GFC) into an engaging 2 hour lesson about current business models and the lack of a moral compass within corporations.
6. Tin Men (1987)
Anyone who has ever been in Sales and has had to deal with the realities of working with the general public will appreciate this movie about selling. A really great picture.
5. Barbarians at the Gate (2001)
Prior to Bernie Maddoff and all the cheats of the 2000’s there was KKR and F Ross Johnson. Take a look inside the art of the deal and at what information is kept away from ordinary people about how a multi-billion dollar deal is actually closed. You will end this movie shaking your head, we just don’t learn from the past.
4. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
This is a wonderful movie about sales, love, dedication, hard work, determination and eventual triumph. A great movie to watch with the family.
3. Boiler Room (2000)
Boiler Room is a smart and energetic movie about selling as a stockbroker for a less then reputable firm. Ben Affleck tries to do an ‘Alec Baldwin’ from Glengarry Glen Ross and does a pretty good job of it.
2. Wall Street (1987)
An Oliver Stone classic about a Wall Street raider. Coined the memorable ‘greed is good’ catchphrase. Seeing father and son Sheen working together in this tribute to capitalism, warts and all.
1. Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
This movie has such a strong start. Alec Baldwins speech is classic and loaded with great quotes (most are not safe for work). Al Pacino’s abusive rant towards the end of the movie is also ‘very persuasive’.
“Put that coffee down, coffee is for closers”
