Those of you that are content marketer veterans know by now that you’re only as good as your last piece. And how did you get to being a thought leader / expert / guru? Practice and hard work. Lots of it.
We all think about expertise in honing one’s craft as a multiplicative effect. The sum total of our experience. In content marketing, it’s possible to take that one step further.
Take Upworthy, for instance. A site that’s come out of nowhere and barely been in existence for 2 years at the time of this article (March 2012) already ranks as the 356th most popular site worldwide according to Alexa data.
How did they do it? Practice. More specifically, practice in titles. They write at least 25 articles for everything that goes live. They experiment asking questions when a user comes to their site. They are constantly making small, incremental changes that you might not even notice.
In short, we’ve got a lot to learn from Upworthy. This infographic, brought to you by Marketo analyzes a lot of the formula to their success. What’s your favorite marketing tactic of Upworthy? Let us know in the comments.
