Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 1 So which is it: The City of Lights or The Big Smoke? Do you prefer high culture and haut cuisine, or a literary journey down rambling back alleys? Does your pulse start racing at the thought of the monumental Eiffel Tower, or do you prefer to get your kicks from red phone boxes and double-decker buses? Yes, it’s that age-old question again: Paris or London? Europe’s nineteenth century culture capital, or the economic powerhouse of the twenty first century? There’s only one way to find out: fight! Below you’ll find an infographic by HouseTrip.com London, that seeks to answer that very question. Having poured over reams of data, the team have come up with a whole wealth of statistics in an effort to definitively name Europe’s top city (sorry Barcelona). From fierce battles fought over the number of Michelin Stars in each city, to a comparison of the average cost of a meal; via museum prices and a rather wonderful detour into the works of J.M.W Turner, this infographic goes all-out to settle this centuries-old rivalry. So who comes out on top? Sadly, they haven’t announced a winner, hoping instead for each reader to draw their own conclusions from the data presented. However, we’ve had a bit of a think, and we reckon we’ve come up with a few extra pointers… Fashion Weeks Oh, Milan gets all the airtime, but fashion week is really about two cities and two cities only: big, bluff London and elegant, haughty Paris. From dizzying trips along the Champs-Elysees in tastefully cut fabric, to the parade of dinner-wear and egos that swarms across central London, the arrival of Fashion Week to either capital is a source of celebration, amusement and crippling traffic jams. Whether you prefer a flute of champagne while being photographed in black and white before the Eiffel Tower (1,063ft according to our infographic!), or a posh cream tea in Harrods before a night shoot on Westminster Bridge, both cities deliver style, pomp and sophistication in spades. So go on then: which do you prefer? Aesthetics Visually, London and Paris couldn’t be any more different. London is grey, modern and best seen under a heavy midwinter sky – ideally from a vantage point beside a roaring pub fireplace. Paris on the other hand simply exudes summer. Long, sweeping boulevards; the famous banks of the Seine; sunset over the Arc de Triomphe… everything about the French capital is designed to be seen on a fine June morning; as you make your way to the nearest café for an espresso and a croissant. But which is better? Not to ruffle any feathers, but we think we’ve found a surprisingly simple answer: a winter flat in London and a summer room in Paris. Best of both worlds: simple, eh? The People Do you prefer life-loving Parisians or salt of the Earth Londoners? What sends shivers down your spine: a knowing murmur among champagne glasses or the din of banter down the pub? The citizens of both capitals have a lot to recommend and we’d hate to pick sides… not least because the idea of 8 million grumpy Londoners or 2 million outraged Parisians is more than we can bear. So there you have it: proof that the Paris v. London debate is nigh-on unsolvable. We’ll leave it up to you to make your mind up after checking out the infographic below.
