With election day right around the corner, let’s take a look into the social and mobile world of the race between President Obama and Mitt Romney. Out of all registered voters, 80% own a cellphone and nearly half of those mobile devices are smartphones. Out of the Android and iPhone demographics, 70% of states voting Republican use Android devices and 70% of Democratic voters are iPhone users.
With social networking being as prominent as it is nowadays, it only makes sense that the election and social sites go hand in hand. Facebook even has an application called “CNN Politics: I’m Voting”. This app allows Facebook users to show their friends whom they intend to vote for and which political issues are most important to them. But, which candidate is more social? The Obama campaign is posting four times as much social content and is active on twice as many social platforms. With that being said, Obama campaign averages 5.5 tweets per day while Romney only averages 1 tweet a day.
Of the United States Internet users, 64% say Obama is more adept at social media and online persuasion. The mobile searches for Obama are greater than Romney, but as days pass, the Romney campaign is gaining mobile searches. So, next time you go to search politically, what will your search turn up?
