Google is going to start differentiating between “good” infographics and “bad” infographics. So what? People LOVE infographics.
And I wonder how Google will “know” which Infographics are good/bad when some of the worst Infographics are found on some of the most popular sites. Check out this turd of an Infographic on Mashable. It looks like something a 5 year old put together with crayons.
Google has always had the same problem with determining the link value. I just linked to Mashable, but I’m not “reporting” anything favorable about them. Google however, is unable to tell the difference.
In any case, the point is, people LOVE infographics and this…ummmm infographic :-) explains why?
The most important clue is somewhere in the middle and it has to do with the speed of processing. We process visual information much faster than written information. Infographics can combine both (graphical and written info) for the greater yet speedy delivery of information-payload.

Very good article. There is definitely a lot of power in images, especially on a computer screen. It’s one thing to read a lot of text on a printed page but it’s definitely a lot harder on the eyes trying to read a lot of text on a monitor.
