Over 50,000 brand new websites are being launched daily on WordPress’s servers alone. It seems like everyone and their dogs are getting involved in blogging, as it has proven time and time again that it’s the ‘cool’ and up and coming way for writers and business-minded folks alike to congregate together.

But with so many people vying for a little bit of attention, how can you make yourself stand out among the pack and become a success? It certainly isn’t easy, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either delusional or lying through their teeth, but it can be done.

We are going to take a look at four successful bloggers and assess not only what they do to make money, but also the exact strategies they use to make $124,407 per month from their blogs.

Pat Flynn makes over $100k per month!

Strategy #1: Pat makes $53,400/month through BlueHost affiliation

Arguably one of the most popular affiliate marketing strategies of bloggers, BlueHost’s awesome deals can’t even be passed up by someone as wildly successful as Pat Flynn. How it works is actually quite simple: The blogger (Pat, in this case) promotes the product to his audience, shows them how it works, and links to it. He does not ask anyone to sign up, nor does he push it on them. For every single person who then goes to BlueHost and becomes a member under Pat’s guidance, he receives $65.

Strategy #2: Pat makes $16,399/month through podcast sponsorships

In July of 2010, back when Smart Passive Income’s podcasts first began, sponsorships were a relatively unknown thing, as little was known about podcasts and it wasn’t easy to set them up or gain a loyal following. Things have changed in the last six years, however, and they are perhaps reaching their height in popularity as people enjoy the ease of listening to their information as opposed to reading it.

Because podcasts offer a less hands-on approach than reading, most listeners don’t mind the occasional promotional advertisement. Here is where sponsorships come in. They pay you, you promote them, and everyone is happy.

Strategy #3: Pat makes $12,307/month by building and licensing his custom podcast player

If anyone knows a thing or two about podcasts, it’s Pat Flynn. He saw the need for a new podcast player and he took the lead in making something better and more helpful than anything else on the market. And so, the Smart Podcast Player was born. He now licenses the product out to other podcasters and is able to make great money off of it.

Launching your own software product is not a foreign concept to bloggers. It’s a great way to make money and build a stronger relationship with your customers, too. All you have to do is figure out what’s missing on the market, and find a way to solve that.

Strategy #4: Regina makes $5,475/month by selling her class

50 Workdays – Zero to Blog, the online, self-guided class that Regina founded, is one of her biggest money makers. Although her income reports haven’t been updated in nearly a year and a half, it is clear to see that this class was particularly successful because she relaunched it this year.

It may seem daunting to become a teacher overnight and start teaching your audience, but it’s actually quite simple. All you have to do is start a blog, write some highly informative posts, and garner a sizeable following. Once you have around 1,000 email subscribers, it’s time to make that class.

If you keep on top of your blog statistics, you should know which of your posts was the most successful. That’s the post that you should base your online class on, as it is the one that most people are interested in. Make a more informative, more awesome, more EVERYTHING class than anything else you’ve seen out there on the subject.

Strategy #5: Regina makes $3,224/month by selling her class

This physical blog calendar is both sold on her website for $18.50, and offered for free in her welcome kit to her Zero to blog students. It promises to help bloggers or one-year worth of content and planning and has received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers.

Again, the key to making money off of these products is to establish a loyal audience. Once you have proven yourself to be a trustworthy source, people will feel more comfortable and confident with their money going to your products. While we are only discussing Regina’s planner in this section, she also offers several workbooks that serve a similar purpose.

Strategy #6: Regina makes $237/month by being an Amazon Associate

I know what you’re thinking: “That’s not a lot of money.” You’re absolutely right, it isn’t. But Regina’s monthly sales aren’t indicative of all that Amazon Associates can do for a blogger.

The site itself pays up to 8.5% on commissions and is especially great for niche bloggers. Much like BlueHost, you should never write a blog post in which you tell your readers to buy a product. It’s pushy, tacky, and it typically won’t work. Instead, write an article that manages to use the product. This is why it is important that you should only promote products that you yourself are familiar with and enjoy.

Here’s a great example: Let’s say I own a food and recipe blog. I want to write a recipe blog post about my sweet old granny’s chocolate chip cookies. In the blog post, I mention my favorite mixer to use. I link to Amazon. That’s it. Most of the time, having a reliable source tell you that they use a specific product will make others want to use it as well.

Johnny FD makes over $18k per month!

Johnny FD makes over $18k per month!

Strategy #7: Johnny makes $99/hour with one-on-one phone coaching

If you’re an expert in a particular subject, why wouldn’t you want to help out those who need some guidance? People seek advice from the best of the best, so it’s no surprise that someone like Johnny, who has managed to make a living out of blogging, would be a natural place to turn.

He offers various phone coaching plans to his customers, with prices ranging from $175 to upwards of $800. Can you imagine that — getting $800 for one transaction? It’s a pretty lucrative business, but it only works if people are actually willing to pay to receive your advice.

If coaching is something you would like to get into, but you are unsure of how to get started, I highly suggest checking out this tutorial by Ramit Sethi on how you can get your first few paying clients.

Strategy #8: Johnny makes $264/month by selling his e-book in Spanish

Getting a book deal is hard. You need a unique concept and proven interest. The only way to truly prove that you have people interested in what you have to say is to prove that people want to read your thoughts. If you have a successful blog with a loyal following, you’ve already managed to do just that.

Johnny sells his e-book Life Changes Quick’, in Spanish to successfully broaden the heights to which his audience is able to reach. By not limiting himself to only English-speaking customers, he is able to garner more attention and interest from those who may not have been able to know about him otherwise.

If writing a book sounds like something you may want to do, Tim Ferris compiled a great resource on how to write a bestselling book that I highly recommend.

Strategy #9: Johnny makes $551/month from his Udemy courseS

Udemy is online learning of the future. Its unique marketplace model makes it unlike any other e-course out there right now. With over 10 million enrolled students searching for knowledge in virtually every area, all you have to do is create your course and wait for the sales to come piling in.

The best part is that you can keep 70% of the revenue that you earn from your courses! You can’t beat margins like that.

Strategy #10: Johnny makes $5,324/month from drop shipping

Drop shipping is especially great for people who have a desire to open an eCommerce store, but lack the necessary capital and inventory.

Johnny works about an hour a day on his two stores, and still manages to rake in over $5,000 per month! The especially great thing about drop shipping stores is that, once you become especially profitable, you can often find someone willing to purchase your store for you — sometimes for up to six figures.

If you want to learn a bit more about the process, I suggest checking out this 11-chapter guide from Shopify.

Strategy #11: Abby makes $10,668/month selling her ebooks

So far, Abby has written 3 killer ebooks: The first deals with building a successful blog. The second deals with organizing your life through Evernote. The third is a “resource” that contains 35 printables to help organize your life.

The books are generally priced between $10-$20 each, and are generating astounding revenue for Abby and her blog.

There are two ways to go about this: get a book deal, or self publish with Kindle. Although the latter takes a great deal of time, energy, and patience, it is quite rewarding when you manage to pull a hero of a book out in the end.

Here is a guide to help you get started if you think that self publishing with Kindle may be the right angle for you.

Strategy #12: Abby makes $5,070/month selling her .PDF life planner on Amazon

While this product is seasonal, it does give us all a great idea: seasonal products sell! Abby sold a “life planner” on Amazon for just three months, and proved that she has turned her blog into a brand when she sold over $5,000 of product consistently for those months.

The printable .PDF planner’s main goal was to help people to achieve their goals and stay productive into the near year, and it worked!
