Do you ever see young children—or even adults for that matter—march up and down the streets shouting to help promote a business? You might, but we live in the great age of mobile advertising today. Google, Apple and Facebook have all gotten into it. In 2013, mobile ad spending reached an estimated $8-10 billion in the U.S., nearly doubling the entire 2012 total.
In-app ads are the fastest-growing sector of the mobile advertising market, and they’re expected to reach $17 billion by 2018, up from $3.5 billion in 2013. Brands finally recognize mobile advertising as an effective way to interact with customers in a targeted way. After all, the average user engages with their mobile device 200 times a day, meaning an average of over two hours a day. Apple iBeacon, a technology launched in Summer 2013, allows in-store transmitters to detect and engage with you as soon as you walk into the store. You must, however, have the store’s app installed on your iPhone for them to be able to engage with you.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch predicts that the U.S. mobile ad market will grow from $3.6 billion in 2011 to a whopping $18.3 billion in 2015. Tablets will only continue to propel ad spending.
