iContact (email marketing by Vocus) have recently published the results from an independent survey of 601 small and mid-sized business marketers demonstrating the health of email marketing in 2013.

The survey showed that despite increased competition from more recent marketing techniques (such as social media) email marketing remains in rude health.

Key takeways from the survey suggest:

  • 56% of businesses surveyed say they will increase their email marketing spend in 2013
  • 83% of businesses surveyed say email is either an important or critical part of their marketing strategy
  • 39% of businesses surveyed rated email marketing 9 out of 10 for effectiveness
