Think the best time to tweet is Mondays at 9 a.m.? Think again.
Despite all of the analysis of the best time to tweet, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Bright and early Monday morning might work for a small sample of businesses, but what if your audience is still sleeping at that time? Or in a meeting? Or driving to work?
There is no “best time to tweet” that can be applied to Twitter as a whole, and the reason is obvious – if every business were to tweet at 9 a.m. on Mondays, their followers would be flooded with so many messages they wouldn’t be able to connect to any of them.
The question “What is the best time to tweet?” must be rephrased in order to be useful. A better question is “What is the best time to tweet for my business?”
And the answer to this second, more useful question is simple: when your audience is online.
Through LeadSift’s social intelligence platform, we’ve explored millions of conversations and determined when certain audiences are online and tweeting. We’ve discovered that there are major demographic, psychographic and intent to purchase differences between audience groups at different times during the day.
For instance, “early risers” are typically high-income millennials who like to check Facebook while tuning into news on shows like Good Morning America. This group is most active between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. – so businesses targeting this group would be best to schedule a few early morning tweets.
Late night social media users are a different bunch, preferring to fuel their midnight tweeting with Gatorade and Pizza Hut, and share celebrity gossip with their social groups.
