The quintet One Direction, formed in 2010, has been making millions of fans across the world in these last three years of success. The group formed by the British Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and also by the Irish Niall Horan never stopped conquering new followers since they finished third in X Factor, but still managed to sign a contract with the super famous producer Simon Cowell.

However, not every 1D fan is the same, there are three very different types: the casual fan, the mid-level Directioner and the ultimate fan. And each one of these has to spend a different amount of money to be considered a follower, an amount that can go over £11,000. It seems like a lot of money, but there are so many items of One Direction merchandising that, after a while, it doesn’t seem that difficult to spend thousands of pounds in just some items, especially if we are talking about £10,000 front-row tickets to a special 1D show.

In these last three years, the group has launched two albums – “Up All Night”, released in 2011, and “Take Me Home”, from 2012 –, broke a lot of records and skyrocketed all the charts with their hot singles like “What Makes You Beautiful” or “Live While We’re Young”.

Although their portrayal as the “new Beatles” might seem too much, the absolute fans make it look like that. They are the ones responsible for the presence of 1D in the Guinness Book as the first British band to stay on top of the Billboard 200 for more than 15 weeks. And there’s more: until now, the boys band has sold over 25 million singles worldwide and 10 million albums. In just 10 performances in 2012, the five boys earned $5 million! Who’s paying? Ultimate fans like you.
