Attract and retain top talent through recruitment videos.

The North East Digital and IT sector employ almost 30,000 people. Current statistics suggest that by 2020 the region will be home to over 2500 software and technology companies, contributing over £2B into the local economy.

Inhabited by Sage, the only top 100 FTSE software company in the UK, our region boasts a plethora of successful digital businesses (too many to profile in this post) – so clearly there are many benefits to being located in this region. In fact, the landscape looks extremely fertile. Earlier in 2018, investment group Bullhound tipped four North East tech firms to become the next so-called ‘unicorns’ – businesses that could one day be worth over £1B.

“Newcastle is second in the UK for high-growth digital businesses at 22%.”

The Digital and IT businesses that operate in this sector enjoy a wealth of support. Organisations like Generators’ ‘Digital Union’ and Dynamo IT cluster, champion local business, provide accelerator programmes, mentoring, events and training amongst other perks. Access to finance is readily available and whilst Sunderland Software City’s ‘Digital Catapult’ forges partnerships with industry and SMEs, the North East LEP continues to campaign and fund, putting the generation of new jobs within Digital and Tech sector, at the heart of their plan. To top all this, we even have ‘Proto’ a £7.8M dedicated state-of-the-art research and development facility, in the heart of Gateshead.

Boasting 5 World-Class Universities, there should be no shortage of talent on our doorstep… and with events like Tech Talent, bridging the gap between industry and talent, finding suitable candidates to fill your role, should pose no problem. And while the contentious question of whether or not we’re experiencing a digital skills gap shows no sign of abating, accessing and recruiting the right talent would sometimes appear challenging.

Companies must now think and operate more creatively in their pursuit for candidates. Whether utilising the skills of an agency or not, forward-thinking recruiters are now adopting the use of video marketing, enabling nets to be cast wider, whilst precisely targeting their desired talent pool.

Ubisoft is a great example of a fast-growing digital company who must appeal to the very best talent in the region. We recently helped them develop an ‘in-game’ first-player-view recruitment video, designed to demonstrate their on-boarding process and explore the company culture.

Whether seeking to attract new talent through a promotional video, communicate company values through an induction video or simply post new vacancies, video is becoming a mainstay component of the recruitment process. Few tools convey emotion, grab attention and evoke imagination like professional video can.

Where there is a need to present the best possible impression, utilising the skills of professionals is key. Develop content that supports both your recruitment objectives, whilst also supporting the values of your brand or organisation.

This region remains a driving force for digital innovation; capable of creating world-class enterprises, and if we can attract, retain and nurture the top talent within the North East, this sector will continue to flourish.
