Tru Access Blog - Millennial Interview Tips

Before you are successful at your first job, you have to land your first job. The first step to your next step is nailing the interview. Below are a few tips to help my Millennial All-Stars shine bright during your interview process.

1. Do your homework – Research the organization that you will be interviewing with. Research the person you will be interviewing with also. Learn as much as you can about the company’s mission, vision and values. Learn about it’s successes and challenges and be prepared to discuss and share your thoughts during the interview. This applies to the person or people interviewing you as well.

2. Don’t just answer questions, ask your own – Have your own list of questions to ask based on the homework and research you’ve done. Express a genuine interest in the direction the company is going in and how they plan to get there. Express a genuine interest in the corporate culture of the organization and how they measure success.

3. Let your personality shine – Let them see who you are not just what you are. You are being evaluated on your personality fit as much as you are on your intellect and skill set. All things being equal, people hire people they like. They will have to spend a lot of time with he people they hire, so it’s a bonus to hire people you believe you will enjoy spending time with.

4. Dress to impress – This sounds cliche but it’s a cliche for a reason. Our first impression of people is what we see. This is an outward display of your character and how you feel about the opportunity. Let then know that you are serious and showcase that commitment by putting forth the effort to impress them in every way. That impression you will make starts with how you look when you show up.

5. Thank You & Follow up – After the interview be sure to immediately thank the interviewer at the end if the interview. Also be sure to follow up later that day or the next day at the latest with a thank you email to each person you interviewed with. This goes a long way.

Good luck guys. I wish you all the best!
