If you can find a path with no obstacles,

it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.

Frank A. Clark

Everyone encounters obstacles in life, whether they are related to your finances, relationships, work, conflict, or illness. There are many things that people desire, but there are always challenges that need to be overcome before you can succeed. Instead of thinking negatively and giving up on your dreams, why not look for ways that you can overcome these obstacles and make them part of your success story? After all, the bitterest of obstacles only serve to strengthen you and make victory that much sweeter if you maintain the proper mindset!

Getting past your obstacles

Every one of us would be rich, healthy, happy, and successful if it weren’t for those tricky brick walls that spring up unexpectedly and discourage us. But, most real success stories all seem to start with some problem, failure or obstacle. The truth is that there will always be things that stand in your way. That is precisely why you have to make a choice. You can choose to believe that you can overcome any obstacles, or you can choose to give up. It always starts with a choice.

Set attainable goals to overcome

You must be able to set attainable, realistic goals so that you can leap over the obstacles that are in your path on the way to your success. Setting goals is a great way to move past obstacles because it gives you a definitive time-line to help you get things done in spite of the barriers. This will also help you make continual progress toward your goals through prioritization and organization.

Setting goals allows you to envision your future and create something concrete to focus on and to work toward. Lots of people get sidetracked and apprehensive because they can only see barriers and roadblocks standing in their way. These people see the obstacles, but they no longer clearly see the goal at the end of their journey. Sadly, these people will often give up before they get started. But this doesn’t have to be you!

If the obstacles you are facing seem of significant size, you may find it useful to break these obstacles down into mini goals. When you set attainable, realistic goals you are breaking the obstacles into manageable, bite-sized, do-able pieces that you can overcome one step at a time.

For example, if you want to pursue a college degree to meet your ultimate goal, consider the application process as your first mini goal and move forward from there, one step at a time.

Use positive self-talk to break down your mental barriers

Moving beyond your obstacles is easier when you can keep a positive mindset. Affirmations and positive self-talk will help you program or re-program your mind for success. For example, you may find it easier to move forward with your goals if you said to yourself something like, “I am capable of succeeding without feeling overwhelmed or unfulfilled.” By implementing affirmations you will create a positive inner dialog so you can overcome any obstacle with confidence and purpose.

The obstacles we face in life, whether they are physical, financial, mental, there are ways to make them more manageable. And, if they can be managed, most often, they can be overcome.
