Admitting You Are an Addict and How to Overcome Your Addiction

Smoking, alcohol, food, sex, and drugs are all addictions that people face on a day to day basis, but how do you admit to something if you don’t know you have it? That is what I want to talk to you about today.

Admitting you are an addict is tough because most people think they can stop doing anything if they really wanted to. Think about it, for some people they are addicted to fast food and although they say they can stop eating fast food, they can’t. What you need to understand is overcoming an addiction is never going to happen if you can’t first admit that you are an addict.

How to Come To Realization You Are an Addict

Know What Normal People Do – An addict should be able to see the difference between their life and that of a normal individual. For alcoholics, a normal person will not drink an entire 12 pack of beer in one sitting. For a drug user, a normal person will not spend all their savings to buy drugs when they have bills to pay. Just know what normal people do and that will give you the push you need to realize your addiction.

Determine How Your Addiction Runs Your Life – Do you rush to the store after work each day just to buy some beer? Are you constantly trying to find new friends to have sex with because you can’t wait for it to happen on its own? An addiction will take over your entire life and that is one way you will know that you are truly an addict.

Ask Friends For Help – This is quite simple, just ask your friends for help. Friends will be glad to help you because they will be able to see just how much your addiction is affecting your life.

By first coming to the realization that you are an addict it will make overcoming your addiction much easier on you. For those of you who think you are going to be able to quit cold-turkey, you are wrong and the statistics show that you will be even worse off than you are right now because of this failed attempt. It is because of this that I recommend you do some of the things below if you are serious about overcoming your addiction.

How to Overcome Your Addiction

Find Activities To Supplement Into Your Life – Exercise, traveling, and video games are great things to do to supplement your addiction. By finding activities that you enjoy you will be less likely to think about your addiction. It doesn’t take much to go from addict to regular person and then back again, so make sure the activities that you choose are fun for you.

Stay Away From Your Addiction – The only way to overcome your addiction for good is to stay away from it. This doesn’t mean that you can participate in your addiction in moderation, you need to quite altogether. By staying away from your addiction you will be able to see how much better your life is and what problems it caused you in the past.

Always Get Help – It doesn’t matter if you are enlisting the help of friends and family or a professional, you need to get help. The benefit of getting help in order to get you through this tough time is that they will be able to see things that you can’t. As an addict your brain is programmed a certain way, so thinking differently is going to be extremely tough for you at first.

As you can see, overcoming an addiction is not impossible as long as you know what you are doing. In order to be a better person you need to take your habit from addiction to occasional activity.
