Delaware sports betting could see some huge changes in the coming months, as lawmakers look to adjust the current legislation.
Delaware Sports Betting Legislation Set For Change
House Bill 365 was introduced by the Delaware House and it set to introduce an amendment to the current gaming law that will make an open sports betting market.
Delaware became the second state in North America, after Nevada, to introduce single-game wagering in 2018. The state began by offering 888’s services, making it the exclusive betting operator and then switched to BetRivers under Rush Street Interactive with a five year deal.
Sen. Spiros Mantzavinos spoke about the new proposal within the house and how it can secure legal gaming sites in the safest manner.
He said (Per, Delaware.gov): “Regardless of whether we’re talking about consumer products or sportsbooks, the consumer benefits from healthy competition in the marketplace,” .
“By creating a regulatory structure that allows our casinos to partner with multiple sportsbooks, we can better ensure legal gaming sites are providing consumers with the best value.”
Rep. Frankling Cooke and William Bush have sponsored the bill, as it hopes to increase Delaware’s sports betting market and introduce video lottery agents alongside betting operators.
These video lottery agents are allowed to work in cohesion with a maximum of two mobile betting sites and operators will have to pay half a million dollars to acquit#re a five year wagering license.
This money will the be funneled into Delaware’s General Fund and if the operators want to renew this license it will cost a further $250,000.
The state currently has three video lottery sites, which can include six new sportsbooks and any residents looking to utilize these sites must be 21 or over with HB 365’s regulations.
The bill has multiple regulations that could change the dynamics, including a new rule to tax operators 18%, which will go into the Lottery Fund in Delaware.
