Hi, I’m Chef James and I’m going to teach you the easiest way to chop garlic.
Chopping garlic used to be a very difficult task. My mom would spend all day chopping garlic and peeling garlic, but I’m going to teach you a very simple way on how to get the most of your garlic.
First of all, you’re going to put it on your cutting board. And then all you’re going to do is basically apply some pressure and what that’s going to do is separate the cloves from the head of garlic. More pressure, and there you have it.
So once we have the cloves out, all we’re going to do is just take the cloves with your knife, and we’re going to lay them on the cutting board, like that. And all we’re going to do is put the knife down and then we’re going to smash them. Boom — like that.
And what that’s going to do is break the skin and then like magic the garlic comes off. No skin. Super simple.
Now once we have the cloves, one other thing that usually happens is that we start chopping and then the garlic starts to stick to your knife. Super complicated. So, a perfect way to chop your garlic and get a very fine cut is by adding some salt to your garlic.
That’s going to do two things. First of all it’s going to season your garlic — you don’t have to season when you cook — and then it’s going to help you cut and the garlic won’t stick to your knife as you can see. See? It stays on the board and not on your knife. So that’s going to help us a lot. And then it’s going to dry out a little bit of the oils within the garlic and what that’s going to do is that you’re going to get a finer cut. Just like that. Repeat the process and there you have it.
