While Facebook design changes often meet with resistance and dire predictions of its demise, the new changes in the Business Page design should make a lot of people happy. This is a major change, designed to help Pages easier to manage for admins, and to make Pages easier to follow with a one-column flow of information.
The major changes include:
- The design will incorporate a one-column look for all posts. No more scanning two columns to see the posts.
- The left-hand column will have information about the Page, including a map, contact information, photos and videos.
- Administrators of the page will now be able to see information on their ads, new likes, notifications and messages no matter where they are on the page.
- A new navigation menu along the top will include Page activity, insights and settings.
- A new “Build and Audience” menu item will take the admin to their Ads Manager account.
- A new “pages to Watch” feature will also appear in the Page Insights. This will enable admins to compare Pages similar to their own. They will be able track key stats and the past week’s most engaging posts for competitors’ Pages.
For those of us who found the two-column format confusing, the new look should be a welcome change. Having all of the contact information, and other “static” information listed in the sidebar will also make the Pages more functional.
However, it is the new features for admins that may be the major news. Having a navigation menu across the top to access Activity, Insights, and Settings will make life easier for those who have responsibility of tracking those things. The Build an Audience menu item that takes admins to their Ads Manager Account will also simplify this chore. Finally, a feature to let admins track and compare the performance of Pages like theirs, including competitors, may help with strategy, which will make Facebook an even more valuable marketing tool.
