This is another very common question I get asked — what should we post on our Facebook page?
If you read this blog (it’s the first thing you do in the morning, right?) you know I live by the 80/20 rule — 80% of your social media posts should be non-promotional and 20% should be promotional.
Social media is an excellent retention tool and should be used as so.
In fact, Harvard Business School discovered that “increasing customer retention by only 5% increases profits by 25% to 95%

Here are 11 things to post on your Facebook business page;
1. Industry Content
This can be from blog posts, articles, video, podcasts, interviews, audio recordings, etc. Add helpful, valuable information to your community and they’ll love you.
2. Local Happenings
You’re a local business, right? Well, why not share what is going on within your local community? This is a great way to build trust with your community as it is informing them of the current, local events in town.

Well, duh! Add an image to a promotional post as it will increase engagement and be seen by a ton more people. Combine this with a Facebook ad so more of your fans can see it. Typically, you can spend as little as $10 to reach 1,000 or more people.
A proper ad should have;
- A headline (the most important piece of any ad)
- A call to action (Ex: Call Today!)
- A sense of scarcity (Ex: This offer expires on Friday)
- A link to the special
4. Ask Questions
We have tested this and the questions that work best are the “one word answers”. People are busy. You cannot ask them to write a long answer because they will not do it. Keep it short.
Some examples are;
Coke or Pepsi?
My favorite day of the week is _____
I am an early riser — Yes or No?
These work and people love to chime in. Use it and you’ll see an increase in engagement.

5. Motivational Quotes
These flat out work. Google search “motivational quotes” and click on the images tab and use an image.
Per our tests, image quotes do much better than just text quotes. I would advise to mix it up and use both though.
6. Your Content
Whether this be a blog post, article, video, interview, podcast, etc. When publishing a blog post share it on your Facebook page, among your other social networks as well. This is a great way to show your community your expertise and you’re willing to help them.
If you are living by the 80/20 rule from above, you’ll drive a lot more traffic to your website because you have build up social currency with your community.
They know you.
They like you.
They trust you.
If your customer/client/patient is happy with your services and they give you a testimonial…I have 2 words for you…
Share it on Facebook, Twitter, your email newsletter and your website. Also, thank them for leaving you a testimonial as that shows your community that you care and are listening. This also encourages more testimonials.
Social proof is very powerful in today’s online world and not enough people are using it.
Use it, it works.

8. Co-Brand with Other Local Businesses
This is an excellent way to build good will and share with your community other businesses you support. You can also share posts from non-profits, charity events, schools, local news, etc.
You don’t have to come up with all your content, you can share other businesses posts as well. The thing with sharing, they typically will share your message when the time comes. The beauty of this is it doesn’t cost you a penny and it gives you exposure to their community. This can be very powerful.
9. Your Employees!
This should be tip #1! Personalize your brand and show who you truly are. This shows your employees you care about them and want to “show them off”.
Talk about an increase in moral!
Do an “employee of the month” posting. Create some friendly competition in your office and watch your employees (I like to refer to them as “team members”) level of service shoot through the roof!
Not enough businesses are doing this. It is an excellent way to differentiate yourself from the competition and it’s just the right thing to do. Give them a virtual pat on the back and show it off to the world.
10. What is Your Why?
This is an excellent question to answer and your community will appreciate you you sharing your why.
Why did you get in the business you’re in?
Why do you do what you do?
What do you love most about your business?
What do you dislike?
Be open and honest with your community. Tell your story in bite size chunks. Story telling on social is key to winning at social.
11. Build Your Email Database
Facebook with email is like peanut butter and jelly, it tastes (works) much better when used together.

Did I just quote myself in my own blog post? Yes, yes I did, but I did it because it is a very important part of successful social media marketing.
Remember to be social on social media. Tell your story, give them a look “behind the curtains” of your company and have fun with it. Personalize your brand and watch your loyalty of your current customers shoot through the roof.
Your profits will do the same.
