Facebook has been pretty busy lately, what with their stock prices dipping down a little lower than expected. But they have not been so busy that they have stopped innovating new ways to put brands in front of the consumer. In fact, they have debuted (quietly) some small changes that seem to be the first step of many for integrating advertisements in mobile apps.
As of right now, sponsored stories show up in the news feed on mobile. In fact, you can choose to target just desktop or mobile (news feed) for sponsored stories. And, as the Wall Street Journal reported this morning, they are also beginning to display Facebook ads in other apps – such as Zynga games. Levelwing has reached out to Facebook for insights (and exact ROI measurements) for ads displayed on Zynga as opposed to just Facebook.com, and has been told that those measurements do not yet exist for brands. Therefore, you have to just assume that your relevant ads are showing (there is no way to monitor, update, optimize as of yet). However, it shows that Facebook is looking to take their ads to mobile apps in a big way. What will happen when ads go into the news feed? When frequency and impressions go through the roof? How will the cost per click be affected? These questions go unanswered as brands and social media marketers alike wait for more updates from Facebook.
Something tells me that Zuckerburg will be scheduling a conference soon, so be on the lookout.
