Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 We’ve all seen the “Like now and win!” contests and promotions on Facebook. But while these on-page games are fun and can potentially ignite a lot of follower engagement, it’s important to launch these little games the right way to avoid A) Looking tacky, B) Messing them up, and C) Being unfair. Below, I will discuss the ins and outs of putting on Facebook promotions as a reference point for the next time you want to try something new. Promotions A promotion is as easy as posting something like, “Use coupon code XYZ123 right now for 20 percent off your next purchase!” When you post these coupon codes and deals, it’s important to add in a link that takes followers exactly where you want them to go. This will typically be a product page or blurb that provides detailed info on the promotion. Also, it helps to make these promotions visible by using images. It doesn’t take long to create a graphic that explains the sale, how to use a code and what the promotion is for. You can even encourage people to share, comment and like these images to get more exposure. Contests Businesses use Facebook contests for a lot of reasons, primarily to win some organic traffic and boost interaction. Most of the time, though, these contests are overlooked and only reach a handful of people. So what gives? To start with, the more people like/comment/share a post the more that certain followers see the post. It’s a snowball effect, really, which means any contest you put on absolutely has to catch your followers’ attention. There are a lot of contests you can put on with a Facebook post. The main one, though, is when you host an “Interact and Raffle” type post. These are formatted in such a way that someone who comments, likes or shares a post is entered into a drawing. That person then receives a special code or free item. Regardless of what kind of contest you put on, it’s important to A) Follow through, B) Keep it fair, and C) Not overwhelm your followers. You can format contests in a number of ways, too. You can post a question about a product and reward the first follower to answer correctly, send everyone who likes a post a discount code or even give away products for shares. It’s up to you!
