There were a wealth of options to choose from for the letter F – Flickr, FourSquare, Flashmobs; #followfriday, Feeds, Forums, Friend (verb). I finally decided that I had to go with Facebook, specifically Pages, as it is such an important social media platform with great potential for your business and is changing very rapidly at the moment.
I thought it would be most useful if I covered some of the recent changes that are starting to develop your Facebook Page into a mini-website.
Before I go on to that I will just answer one of the basic questions that I often get asked:
Q: Will people be able to see my personal page/conversations if I have a Page for my business?
A: No, the two can be kept quite separate and, unless you specifically ask that Page to show who is the owner of it, no one will know. One way to ensure this is to tick the box below under Edit Page, Update Info, Your Settings and you will then always comment as your business Page. See below:
Another option is to go to Edit Page, Update Info and then to Featured and check this setting is not activated.
You can do both to make absolutely sure!
Four new Facebook Page features were covered really well by Viv Craske of Digital Marketing Blueprint in a recent free webinar. Click here for the link.
The features covered on Viv’s webinar were:
Scheduling Page Posts
Facebook Admin Page Roles
Facebook Ads Manager
Promoted Page Posts.
All these features help to make Facebook a more business oriented option but I’m just going to cover the first two in this blog (you need 400 Likes before you can use Promoting Posts any way and it’s gradually being rolled out!).
Scheduling Page Posts
You can only do this in your Facebook Page and it is done on time. So click on a Post, type in what you want as usual and then go to the small clock that you’ll see in the bottom left hand corner.
Click on that and it will say “+ Add year”, click again and it will give you year options, select the year and “+ add month” appears, then day, hour and minutes. The minutes appear as 10 minute intervals and, when you complete this, the ‘Post’ box will change to ‘Schedule’ and you just click that.
It’s really simple and quick to do and you can post up to 6 months in advance.
If you want to see what you have scheduled you just go to ‘View Activity Log’.
Facebook Admin Page Roles
Another great feature for businesses, particularly with either contractors or staff posting on your page is that you can now limit the access an individual has. This ensures that no-one can delete you as Admin in error!
Again, go to Edit Page and then to Admin Roles. Click the drop down by your current Admins and you’ll see 5 options. These are a hierarchy with Manager having full editing rights and then go all the way down to Insights Analyst.
For more information about each role, just click the ‘Learn more’ to go to the Facebook Help section.
Save your changes, you will be asked to enter your password to confirm and then you’re done!
I hope the update has been useful – I now need to break the news to my husband that I’ve demoted him to Content Creator!
