If you still think Social Media is a trend and Facebook is for the kids you need to take note.
ABC News has just announced that it will be teaming up with Facebook to cover the 2016 Presidential Debate using Facebook Live.
Earlier this year ABC News worked with Facebook to cover the 2016 Republican National Convention and the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The ABC News’ Facebook pages had more than 28 million video views.
Thus ABC News will feature Facebook Live video stems from the debate host cities, spin rooms as well as watch parties across the country. Commentary from anchors and correspondents from the ABC News headquarters in New York will also be provided. Additionally, the comments, questions and conversations from Facebook users will be incorporated into the live coverage on Facebook.
Colby Smith, Vice President of Digital at ABC News told the SocialTimes:
Given the tremendous viewership we saw across the ABC News Facebook pages throughout the conventions, we’re thrilled to continue the partnership and bring ABC News’ wide-ranging live coverage direct to users’ News Feeds for the debates. As we move further into the election cycle, there continues to be a voracious appetite for live content, and we know many users turn to Facebook to engage and participate in the conversation.
Coverage of the debates will begin on Facebook Live at 7 pm ET. The coverage will include the original series Strait Talk and contributors will include Matthew Dowd and LZ Granderson, both of ABC News. This will be followed by coverage from Nightline co-anchor Dan Harris.
Andy Mitchell, Director of News and Global Media Partnerships at Facebook emailed the SocialTimes a statement:
We’re excited that ABC News will continue to bring people on Facebook the full breadth of what is happening in real-time on the ground during these important moments in the election cycle. With its robust Facebook Live coverage plans and deep bench of political journalists, ABC News will help facilitate an open dialogue among voters and create an engaging and immersive experience from each debate.
