If you still think Social Media is a trend and Facebook is for the kids you need to take note.
ABC News has just announced that it will be teaming up with Facebook to cover the 2016 Presidential Debate using Facebook Live.
Earlier this year ABC News worked with Facebook to cover the 2016 Republican National Convention and the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The ABC News’ Facebook pages had more than 28 million video views.
ABC News will show Facebook Live videos from the cities hosting the debates, spin rooms, and watch parties around the country. Viewers will also hear commentary from anchors and reporters at the ABC News headquarters in New York. Furthermore, comments, questions, and discussions from Facebook users will be included in the live coverage on Facebook.
Colby Smith, Vice President of Digital at ABC News told the SocialTimes:
Due to the huge viewership on the ABC News Facebook pages during the conventions, we’re excited to keep the partnership and deliver ABC News’ extensive live coverage straight to users’ News Feeds for the debates. As we progress in the election cycle, there remains a strong demand for live content, and we understand that many users turn to Facebook to join and take part in the discussion.
Coverage of the debates will begin on Facebook Live at 7 pm ET. The coverage will include the original series Strait Talk and contributors will include Matthew Dowd and LZ Granderson, both of ABC News. This will be followed by coverage from Nightline co-anchor Dan Harris.
Andy Mitchell, Director of News and Global Media Partnerships at Facebook emailed the SocialTimes a statement:
We’re excited that ABC News will continue to bring people on Facebook the full breadth of what is happening in real-time on the ground during these important moments in the election cycle. With its robust Facebook Live coverage plans and deep bench of political journalists, ABC News will help facilitate an open dialogue among voters and create an engaging and immersive experience from each debate.
