We had the pleasure of talking to Craig Malloy, Co-Founder and CEO of Bloomfire, about his company, cloud computing and trends in the industry. Do not miss this interview!

GetApp: How would you describe your role in the company?

My name is Craig Malloy and I’m co-founder and CEO of Bloomfire, an Enterprise Social Network that enables business professionals to easily and securely collaborate, find, and share knowledge. I’ve been founding and growing technology companies for 16 years, most recently LifeSize Communications, which was acquired by Logitech in 2009, and ViaVideo before that, which was acquired by Polycom in 1998. I earned a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and a MBA from UCLA and I’m the proud father to five great kids.

GetApp: Can you briefly present your management team?

Bloomfire’s management team includes Heidi Farris, VP of Marketing, Bill Paape, VP of Finance and CFO, Chris Yndo, VP of Sales. I worked with Bill at both of my previous companies, and Heidi and Chris joined the team after working together at SolarWinds, an IT management software company.

GetApp: How do you benefit from cloud computing as a company?

As the convergence of cloud, social, mobile and information transforms user behavior in decision-making, Bloomfire steers the evolution of content and internal communication away from static file repositories, isolated chats or noisy activity streams and towards the creation of enduring, consistently useful and easily accessed content.

GetApp: How does your solution differentiate from the products and services offered by competitors?

Our customers are looking for a way to interact with the content they need to do their jobs — they are not looking for an activity stream or a Facebook for business. We offer sophisticated content creation tools that includes screencasting, webcast reporting, co-authoring, and much more. Bloomfire is very flexible and can be used in a variety of ways, such as a company intranet, sales enablement tool, training programs, customer service support, and to build both internal and external communities. It’s simple enough to require no IT administration and scalable up to tens of thousands of users.

GetApp: Why do you think your customer buy from you?

Simply put, we help them solve a problem. Bloomfire appeals to both line-of-business managers within the enterprise and senior leaders in growing organizations. Our customers often come to us to replace their stale and hard-to-configure intranets, enable faster sales cycles, offer training beyond the classroom, and provide customer service while building community. We encourage them to start small and expand organically, and we make it easy to get going with pricing that starts at $200 a month for up to 25 users.

GetApp: Can you mention some of your key clients?

Our customers range from departments within large enterprises to small businesses, and across a wide variety of industries. They include Aaron’s, Arbonne, Bechtel, Comcast, Dannon, esurance, Etsy, Kellogg’s, Make-A-Wish, Mason McDuffie Mortgage, McGraw Hill, Mulesoft, Re/MAX, Shaw Industries, Triad Semiconductor and more.

GetApp: Which technology company do you most admire?

For the past several years I have been intrigued by those companies that tie together a perfect blend of hardware, software and cloud services into a beautiful user experience. To me, Apple is still the gold standard in that regard. We will have to see if they can continue bringing that all together in the absence of Steve Jobs.

GetApp: Which technology leader do you most subscribe to in terms of vision for the future?

As an entrepreneur, I’d have to give the nod to Elon Musk. To simultaneously be the CEO/Founder of a next generation electric car company and a private spacecraft company is pretty incredible. Both are bold, visionary, high risk of public failure ventures. Congratulations to him.

GetApp: What are the top three software tools you use for your business?

We use Bloomfire for our intranet, customer communities, and blog. We use SalesForce for CRM and Marketo for email marketing.

GetApp: What do you see as the key trend emerging in the industry?

I believe that we will see more integration of social technologies in enterprise settings, and those technologies will focus on providing people with the most relevant content based on their social profile.

Also, as workers are getting hammered with information overload from email, social networks, and so many different applications, and I think that we will see cross-application search so that we can find the information we need without having to remember where it lives.

GetApp: What is THE most important message you feel you should get across to someone considering buying your solutions?

1. Identify a pressing information and knowledge-sharing problem.

2. Find a solution (like Bloomfire) that’s simple and easy to scale.

3. Start small and grow organically.
