It may sound a bit ridiculous, but over the years the trend of creating and watching movie trailers made of LEGO block pieces has grown. A fascinating child’s toy has become a new type of art form, while those who might take to stop motion animation are pushed aside to make way for CGI. Well there is a legion of these stop motion trailers, as well as famous movie scenes and parodies, all over the internet, and those making them are called “brickfilmers”. A fad? Possibly, but entertaining nonetheless. Here’s the best I have seen so far.
300
The most obviously LEGO of the list, this trailer can still hold its own. The slow motion pieces are pretty funny, and the animations are pretty smooth.
Shaun of the Dead
I have never seen this movie, but this trailer made me laugh so it must be somewhat on point. I particularly like the mini-figure with a beer belly the best. The zombies are pretty well done too.
The Dark Knight Rises
Granted, this mock trailer doesn’t have much to go on seeing as the real trailer is a bit sparse. Despite this, I find it a job well done as the animations are very clean and the editing is accurate, to my knowledge.
Cars 2
This one may be considered cheating as the cars are pretty much premade, but it still looks neat. My favorite bits are the brings they used to make the crowd look varied and full and the brick clouds!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2
I am completely, admittedly biased in this, but I think this is by far the best I’ve seen. The animations are super fluid, the framing is dead on, there are special effects, and the editing is incredibly accurate – I would know, I’ve seen the real trailer close to a hundred times.
Is this a growing trend? Do you find these entertaining? Give us your thoughts!
