The official trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, has finally arrived.

After a handful of fan-made trailers, rumors, and months and months of anticipation, Disney and Lucasfilm have released the teaser trailer with some interesting scenes and exhilarating action.

Here is the trailer:

There are several interesting things to generate speculation in the Episode VII trailer. It is clear the film will return to the desert planet of Tattooine for an extended period of time. There also appears to be some scenes that take place in a snowy forest at night, which doesn’t look familiar from any of the previous films.

The final shot is the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s ship, taking on two X-Wing fighters from the Empire, which was allegedly destroyed at the end of Episode VI,  The Return of The Jedi. This aerial fight scene is reminiscent of J.J. Abrams scenes from his Star Trek films in look and movement.

There also appears to be a new-look lightsaber for these new films.

While there is no official synopsis yet, The Force Awakens is set to take place decades after Return of The Jedi ended, showing viewers the fate of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Sywalker (Mark Hamill), and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). Along with the old characters, new characters will be introduced, and the cast includes Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, and recent Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o.

This is the first Star Wars film under the new ownership structure, with Disney buying Lucasfilm from director George Lucas and launching new films and rumored spinoffs in the process. This is gearing up to be the most hotly anticipated film of all time. Of course, the new episodes from George Lucas starting back in 1999 were anticipated upon their release, but in this new world of extreme social media, The Force Awakens might be the biggest ever.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be released on December 18, 2015, and this trailer will be available at exclusive theaters across the country this weekend. You can find that list and more info here.
