Randy Jackson is leaving “American Idol” following a thirteen year tenure on the hit singing competition. The former judge stepped down from the competition last year, but returned as a mentor this season, but is closing the door on the singing show for good this time.

Jackson said of leaving “Idol”, “After 13 seasons, I felt now was the perfect time to leave ‘American Idol’. I’m proud to have been a part of a series that discovered some incredible artists and will go down in history as one of the most successful television shows ever. A true original, ‘Idol’ started it all. Onto what’s next.”

Fox, Fremantle Media North America and 19 Entertainment said of his departure, “Randy has been such an integral part of American Idol since day one, both as a judge and as a mentor. He’s provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years. We wish him all the best in his next chapter. Randy will always be part of our Idol family and we hope he’ll visit from time to time.”

Previously when talking of his departure after twelve seasons on the show, the music producer said, “You know, a bit of what I’ve done on ‘Idol’ for twelve seasons is that same sort of thing. I love inspiring people. I don’t think it’s a ‘Why give it up now?’ I just think that I’ve been through a lot of iterations of the show.”

With regard to the bond that he shared with fellow judges Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, Jackson said, “We got so lucky. Anybody that says that they knew that this was going to be a hit, knew that we were going to gel together is lying. None of us really knew. We hit the jackpot. It was definitely a little hard to take” of the original group of judges going their separate ways, but said, “Because we rode to the dance together. And we made the dance what the dance was.”

Now that Randy Jackson is leaving “American Idol” for good, where do you think he will end up next?
