Phylicia Rashad is defending Bill Cosby. Showbiz411’s columnist Roger Friedman reports he ran into Rashad at Tuesday’s Paramount lunch for the movie “Selma” at the Metropolitan Club in New York City. Rashad, played Cosby’s TV wife Claire Huxtable for 12 years on “The Cosby Show” and its sequel “Cosby.”

Asked about what the actress thought of the sexual allegations against Cosby she held back at first. She told Friedman, “I don’t want to become part of the public debate” but said, “I love him.”

She then continued on with their conversation. Rashad noted in the years since she’s known Cosby, she has never seen the behavior alleged by the women who say they were drugged and raped, or sexually harassed.

“Forget these women. What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

When discussing Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson she commented, “Oh, please.”

Johnson had sent Vanity Fair a revealing essay describing Cosby as drugging her during a meeting at his home. She claimed she was hesitant to tell her Bill Cosby story in the past, because “black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like me, an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.”

Dickinson said Cosby reached out to her during a trip to Bali after she left rehab. She claimed Cosby had her travel to Lake Tahoe where he drugged and raped her.

Friedman continues to share that Rashad was also quick to defend Camille Cosby too. She shared, “This is a tough woman, a smart woman. She’s no pushover. Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV. And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled.”

When Friedman asked Phylicia Rashad why she thinks Bill Cosby has kept quiet she said he is probably too proud to raise a defense. She said, “If he spoke now, what do you think the media would do with it?”

Phylicia Rashad believes Bill Cosby’s reputation is being ruined and only stands behind his work in education and show business. No doubt her comments are creating controversy!
