With the new season of The Walking Dead, new rumors about the characters have begun to stir. An old rumor is that Norman Reedus’ character, Daryl Dixon, is gay — and the newest rumor is that Reedus isn’t happy about that.

As a story circulated claiming that Reedus had begged producers not to make him play a gay character, the actor himself responded to the rumors on Twitter Monday evening. Linking an Inquisitr article that reported the rumor, Reedus denied it.

This is total bs by the way.

Reedus quickly changed the subject back to the content of Sunday night’s show, and the question on viewers’ minds: who is in the bushes with Daryl? Still, one quick tweet made Norman’s position on the controversy clear.

Leave it to Daryl to turn from controversy to kitties.

The article Reedus disputes cites a claim from a tabloid column, Celebrity Dirty Laundry, which goes on to claim that the actor’s begging convinced writers to put the gay Daryl story line on hold for a while, but it’s clear where Norman Reedus stands on the matter: it’s just not true.

As far as the possibility of Daryl being gay, Robert Kirkman, the show’s creator, answered just that question in the ‘letters’ section of an issue of the comic, says Celebuzz.

All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.

Part of the recent rumor was a claim that Reedus was afraid a gay Daryl would turn away fans. Judging from the hundreds of retweets his denial has already had, and the fact that it has already been favorited by more than 1,600 followers, that’s not a concern — the fans don’t have a problem with the idea of a gay Daryl, and neither does Norman Reedus.
