The new Pee-Wee Herman movie will be going straight to Netflix this time around.

Produced by Judd Apatow, who is famous for big movies like The 40 Year Old Virgin, Pineapple Express, and Knocked Up, the new Pee-Wee Herman movie won’t be seen in theaters (as of writing), but will instead be making its big debut on Netflix. The specifics of the deal are still being worked out, says a rep at Netflix, as it’s mainly waiting on the final agreement from the director. Pee-Wee himself, Paul Reubens, has stated that there is indeed a director in place, however. The deal to put the movie on Netflix was made a while ago, but the info hasn’t been released to the public until now. There is still no information on what the plot will be either.

Back in March, Judd Apatow made some comments relating to the production of the film. “We’ve kicked around a couple titles. Pee-wee takes a holiday – that was one of them. But we have a great script that he wrote with a friend of mine, Paul Ruse, and I think we’re probably going to get to do that soon” he stated.

In October, Paul Reubens appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk a bit about his career and the movie. As seen in the video, Reubens didn’t give much information, but did say that production will begin in February 2015. Fallon tries to get Reubens to leak the name of the director, asking “Steven Spielberg?” with Reubens jokingly responding “Steven Spielberg!” only to shake his head and deny it.

The movie has been hinted at for nearly five years, with little details surfacing so far. It’s hopeful that now with these recent comments, that more information will be released soon.
