Kate_Winslet_faceThe Fact that the Young Adult novel, Divergent, written by Veronica Roth is being made into a movie adaption was released months ago and fans of the series have been waiting anxiously for the cast. There were rumors for a while, and then the official actors and actresses that were to play the beloved characters of the books have slowly been released.

One of the first cast member names to be released was Shailene Woodley who will be playing the main character, Tris (Beatrice) Pryor. The male lead was just announced this past week and will be Theo James who has stared in Downton Abbey. James will be playing Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton. When asked about getting the role, Theo James said that he had always been a fan of the books and was thrilled to be a part of the film and was honored to play Four. He says he is excited to play a character who is extremely complex and mysterious. He also says he is excited to work along side Shailene Woodley and is looking forward to filming. The newest addition of the film will be Kate Winslet. She will be playing Jeanine Matthews who is the ruthless and powerful leader of the Erudite group and is the main antagonist in the book.

In the novel, the society is broken up into four different factions, each upholding a different value that its members base their lives around. At a certain age, each person must chose which faction they wish to be a part of for the rest of their lives, and it is a life-changing decision. The story focuses on a young girl named, Tris, who is told that she is “Divergent” and that it is something powerful and dangerous and because she is divergent, she does not necessarily fit into any one fraction perfectly. Tris choses a fraction and tries to understand what divergent really means.

Those working on the film have said that they want to keep the movie adaption as true to the book as possible. The film production is supposed to start in April.
