Mike Colter has been cast in the role of Luke Cage in the upcoming Netflix series Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones. He is also set to appear in his own show as Cage, and both shows will follow Daredevil as the second and third superhero shows to premiere on Netflix.

The Marvel cinematic universe continues to grow following Marvel’s huge announcement of all of their films to be released over the next several years, and the company continues to tap into the television market as well.

The ABC series Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD continues to grow in popularity, and has tied in with recent films as well. The Captain America spin-off series Agent Carter is set to debut on January 6th, and air while Agents Of SHIELD is on its break for the season.

Speaking on the casting of Mike Colter, Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, said “Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”

The series follows Jessica Jones, who is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective, following a short-lived stint as a super hero. She is based in New York City, and is brought in to investigate people with special abilities, where she meets Cage, a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

The title role of Jessica Jones will be played by Krysten Ritter, who has been actively reading comics in preparation for her role. She was previously seen in the hit AMC drama Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23, and is also in the new film Big Eyes, opening on Christmas.

Prior to Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Mike Colter has been seen in The Good Wife and Ringer, in addition to several roles as a guest star. Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix, and will air exclusively on the streaming platform.
