James Gunn: Guardians Isn't An Avengers: Infinity War Prequel

James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is one of the best success stories of 2014, and one of the best superhero films ever made. The movie is important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seeing that it introduced the intergalactic side of it. People keep trying to link Guardians to ‘The Avengers: Infinity War’, and many wonder if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will meet Star-Lord and crew.

The introduction of Thanos and the Power Stone (one of the Infinity Stones) in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has led many to believe that the Guardians will show up in the two part ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. James Gunn’s Guardians and The Avengers might never team up, as the director claims that both teams reside in different galaxies.

Gunn casts a shadow of doubt over the star studded Marvel crossover, and says Guardians isn’t leading up to The Avengers. Gunn’s full quote reads:

“The last thing I said was something about how the Guardians, we really are mostly focused on creating the Guardians as their own separate universe, creating the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. It isn’t all about leading towards Avengers. We’re not subservient to ‘The Avengers.’ Whether or not at some point, some Guardians and some Avengers meet up and meet somewhere in the world, whether it’s two years from now, three years from now, four years from now, fifteen years from now…I’m not going to say. But ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ does not exist as a prequel to ‘Avengers 3’ and ‘4.’ They have their own thing that they’re involved in. They have their own mythos that they’re involved in. They have their own stories that are equally important.”

James Gunn’s Guardians and The Avengers meeting up still hasn’t been crossed off. It seems as if Gunn wants ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to be its own entity, and not become a small part of another film, but he knows how the Marvel machine works. Only time will tell if the two teams meet up.

Do you think the universes of The Avengers and Guardians will collide soon?
