The upcoming Ghostbusters‘ female cast has been chosen, and will feature young stars of the comedy genre. The new film will build off of the popularity of the original films, and is set to be a reboot with an all-female cast.

The four new members of the Ghostbusters will be played by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Final negotiations are still being made, but it has been confirmed that they will make up the new cast.

It was previously announced that the film would have an all-female cast by director Paul Feig, which was received with mixed results from fans. The franchise has been abandoned since Ghostbusters 2 in 1989, but there were talks of a different revival prior to the death of Harold Ramis when the original director Ivan Reitman backed out.

The news of the Ghostbusters female cast was revealed by Paul Feig personally on Twitter when he unveiled a picture of all four actresses with no further description, leading everyone to believe that they were the new ghost fighting team.

Paul Feig worked with two of his upcoming stars once already in Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. In addition to Bridesmaids, he is known for directing The Heat, also starring McCarthy, and she was the first one to be in negotiations for the new film.

The new Ghostbusters film will feature three out of four as Saturday Night Live alums, including Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, who was nominated for an Emmy for her work last year. Although she was not on Saturday Night Live, Melissa McCarthy got her start on TV as well with Gilmore Girls, and later Mike and Molly.

The new Ghostbusters featuring an all-female cast should be a hit with the female crowd as the previous films were mostly adored by men. Are you excited about the new cast, or can you think of any women who would be better suited for the roles?
