The fourth season of NBC’s “The Voice” premiered Monday, March 25. It is a reality television show where singers, the best of theUsher best, come and sing for four judges who are award winning singers. However, the judges’ backs are turned during the performance so that appearance has no influence on their decision: all that matters is the voice. They can choose to turn around in hopes of getting the contestant on their team, but if more than one person turns around, the contestant can choose which one they want to be their trainer. Each judge can only have 12 people on his or her team.

For this season, two of the four judges changed. Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, and Blake Shelton, award winning country singer, both returned for this season. Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo left the show and were replaced with Shakira and Usher. Although fans of the show were sad to see the two of them go, two new, well-known judges actually helped to boost excitement about the show. The first episode had 13.4 million viewers and a 4.7 rating among adult viewers which made it the top show of the night. That being said, Monday night is a tough slot for a television show that deals with a singing competition because it is up against shows like “Dancing With the Stars” and “How I Met Your Mother.” Those two shows were hurt in terms of viewers, most likely because of the premiere of “The Voice.”

The episode started with a performance by Blake, Shakira, Usher, and Adam singing The Beatles’ “Come Together” and they did a great job. They then went on to the blind auditions. The judges had really great chemistry. They picked on each other and taunted each other in a playful manner like they had in other seasons. A lot of people were interested to see if the dynamic would change with the new judges, but their interactions were great like they have been in the past. The new judges may even be better. by the end of the show, Blake, Usher, and Shakira had two people on their team and Adam had one. Based on this episode, it looks like it’s going to be a great season.
