Jamie Dornan, the star of the highly-anticipated novel adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, tells curious viewers “You won’t see my manhood” in the film.
The Irish actor, who takes on the role of Christian Grey in the film, didn’t divulge many details regarding the film. However, he was adamant when it came to the question of his full-frontal nudity, that viewers would not see his unmentionables.
In an interview with The Guardian, Dornan said “There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn’t be seeing my, um…todger.” Dornan did go into some detail regarding the sex scenes, which will be important aspects of the movie. “You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don’t want to make something gratuitous and ugly and graphic. [Director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] is a very bright woman, so there might be some suggestive elements to it, but I haven’t seen it at this stage, so it is hard for me to say. I’m aware of what we shot, and it wasn’t as if we shot a film without any action.”
Dornan also discussed the very un-sexy task of filming sex scenes. “Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken,” he said. “There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment. That’s not sexy unless you’re into being watched, which I’m not.”
Jamie Dornan stars opposite Dakota Johnson, who plays the object of his affection, Anastasia Steele. The film, adapted from the global blockbuster novel by E.L. James – which was the fastest-selling paperback in history – is the first part of a trilogy.
Fifty Shades of Grey will be released on Valentine’s Day next year and is anticipated to be a massive hit for distributor Focus Features.
