The official Dear White People red-band trailer has been released. The highly acclaimed movie is a satirical debut from director Justin Simien. The movie won the Best Picture award at the San Francisco Film Festival and the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent.
Dear White People followed the lives of four black students at an Ivy League college. The movie offers commentary on race relations in the age of Barack Obama. The flick follows the students as they attempt to navigate campus life, while dealing with racial politics at a predominantly white college. The center of the Dear White People story follows an annual Halloween party.
Justin Simien wrote the script in 2012, when he was still attending college. He then proceeded to raise money on Indiegogo after creating a concept trailer that led fundraising efforts.
The satire will open in select cities on October 17 and will be offered nationwide on October 24.
Dear White People stars Tyler James Williams, Tessa Thompson, Teyonah Parris, Brandon P Bell, Kyle Gallner, Brittany Curran, Marque Richardson and Dennis Haysbert.
