The first couple to take the dance floor for Boy Bands vs Girl Groups night is Simone Biles and Sasha Farber, dancing a samba to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child.

Len Goodman praises her control and samba content, but says her timing was a bit off at times. Bruno Tonioli says her “future is set in gold” and calls her sassy. He agrees with Len’s comment about timing. Carrie Ann Inaba calls the dance “sexy” and praises Simone’s uniqueness. Guest judge Nick Carter agrees, calling Simone “a powerful woman.” They score a 35 out of 40.

According to ABC, Biles, 19, “is already considered one of the best and most decorated gymnasts in the history of the sport. She was adopted by her grandparents at a young age, and they have been a major influence in her life, introducing her to the sport of gymnastics. She was always jumping around at a young age and was introduced to the sport on a school field trip to Bannon’s Gymnastix at the age of six. While she trains close to 35 hours per week, Biles knows how to keep things fun and is known for inventing new skills during training.”

Now in its 24th season, “Dancing with the Stars” is hosted by Tom Bergeron and sports broadcaster Erin Andrews. The judging panel is composed of ballroom experts Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli. Their scores, along with America’s votes, determine who gets to stay and who is sent home each week as couples vie for the coveted Mirrorball trophy.

The current contestants include Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles with partner Sasha Farber, Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei with Val Chmerkovskiy and this season’s Bachelor Nick Viall with new mom Peta Murgatroyd.
