Dancing With The Stars head judge Len Goodman has announced his departure from the television dance competition. At 70-years-old, Goodman cited personal reasons for his leave of the ABC show.

Goodman revealed in a statement, “I’ve got my wife, I’ve got my son, my mother is still alive and she’s in hospital – I’ve had virtually no time to go and visit her. So, I just need a bit of time off to get on with a normal life. And it was either Strictly went or the American one went or the tour went. I’m doing the spring one when I go out there…and that’s going to be my last one. Dancing With The Stars, next year is their tenth year, so I think that’s a nice place to stop.”

Dancing With The Stars is losing out, but Strictly Come Dancing will still have the effervescent British judge. He said, “I feel a loyalty towards the BBC. I will do ‘Strictly’ as long as they want me. Eventually, they will say, ‘He’s getting too old and fat now, Goodman, we’ll have to get shot of him.’ But all the time they would like me to do it, I will be doing it.”

Dancing With The Stars has been on the air on ABC since 2005 and is currently heading into its twentieth season. Some have said that the producers of the show brought in Julianne Hough because they knew that Len Goodman was almost out of the door. Nevertheless, the show is losing its most classy and snarky judge in the history of the show. Goodman has been co-judging the competition with Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli since the show’s inception and it certainly won’t be the same without him.
